Student Support and Awarding


Only students-presenters from Track 18 “Student Paper Competition” with accepted final papers and submitted copyright forms are eligible for this support.

ASME, JSME, China Nuclear Society (CNS) and European Student-Track Leaders will select 15 "Qualified Students" from each of the following geographic locations: North America, Japan/Asia, China, and Europe (60 students in total). The names and paper titles will be provided to Dr. Tomio Okawa, Chair of Track 18, by February 17, 2015.

Abstract Submission Deadline is Oct. 11, 2014. (Same date as the deadline of other Technical papers)

SCHEDULE DURING THE CONFERENCE

The schedule of the qualified students during the conference is estimated as follows:

REGISTRATION

Students who have been accepted as the qualified students in Track 18 and have been notified accordingly must register for the conference by the deadline (the exact date will be announced later). Failure to register by the above deadline will result in the paper being pulled out from the conference proceedings and as such the funding/honorarium will be forfeited.
Note: Usually, the qualified students do not need to pay the registration fee. Please see the section of FUNDING for details.

HOTEL

The hotel rooms have been reserved for the qualified students from May 16 to May 22 (6 nights). Accommodation fee including the breakfast is planned to be covered (extra fee should be paid individually). Two or three students share one room (sleeping room’s arrangement will be made based on the input from the track leaders).

STUDENT TECHNICAL TOUR

The technical tour is planned for Thursday, May 21, 2015 – Central Research Institute of Electric Power Industry (CRIEPI) and Japan Atomic Energy Agency (JAEA) (full day; buses will be provided). All the qualified students are required to participate in this tour.

FUNDING

The committee shall select up to 60 students in total: 15 from North America, 15 from Europe, 15 from Japan/Asia and 15 from China. These students receive a complimentary conference registration, which includes the CFD seminar, the opening reception, the banquet, and the student technical tour. All the qualified students are expected to participate in these events.
Additional funding: For the qualified students from North America and Europe, additional funding may be provided by ASME. For the qualified students from China, additional funding may be provided by CNS.

AWARDING

The student-competition committee will be chaired by Dr. Tomio Okawa with appointed judges Student-Track Leaders. There will be three competition categories:
1) Akiyama Medal, 2) Best paper, and 3) Best poster.

POSTER REQUIREMENTS

RESTRICTIONS

  • Accepted students from North America and Europe must be members of the ASME.
  • Accepted students from Japan must be members of the JSME.
  • Accepted students from China must be members of the CNS.
  • All students must provide proof of a student status.
  • Accepted students must be listed as the first author within their paper.
  • Only one student per paper will be considered for support.
  • The number of student co-authors should not be less than the number of professors – co-authors.
  • Students must present their papers orally with a support of Power-Point slides as well as to prepare a poster presentation, which will be presented by them during the poster session.
P.S. All other students from around the world, who will not get into a category of “qualified students” with a financial support from the conference, can participate in the Student Track with paper and poster presentations and will be eligible for the ICONE-23 awards, but have to pay the conference fees as students and make all other arrangements (travel, hotel, etc.) on their own.
