MECHANICAL ENGINEERING HERITAGE NO.115
Timber pre-cut system MPS-1
The wood-frame construction method, which currently accounts for 43% of all Japanese housings, has traditionally been handcrafted onsite by skilled carpenters. Miyagawa Koki planned to replace it with “pre-cut” (a term coined by the company), which involves machining at the factory in advance and delivery to the site. This equipment is the processing machine part of the pre-cut computer-aided-design/computer-aided-manufacturing system manufactured in 1985 (Showa 60). Currently, 93% of the frame construction method is the pre-cut method, and Miyagawa Koki has a 60% share of the market for pre-cut machinery. This machine is the starting point for this method.
