MECHANICAL ENGINEERING HERITAGE NO.101
ASAHIFLEX I・IIB, MIRANDA T, ZUNOW, NIKON F
Single-lens reflex (SLR) cameras, which advanced Japanese cameras to the world standard
The five Japanese camera models from the 1950s owned by the JCII Camera Museum are mechanical SLR cameras that, with their convenience and robustness, turned the reputation of German cameras on its head. Asahi Flex I (1952) was the pioneer of the single lens reflex mechanism. The IIB (1954) evolved into an instant return mirror system. Miranda T (1955) showed upright and un-inverted images with a pentaprism. The Zunow (1958) was equipped with a fully automatic aperture control mechanism. The Nikon F (1959) was a robust SLR camera equipped with all the latest contemporary mechanisms.
