Dr. Nelson K. Akafuah
The title:
“Optimizing renewable energy utilization through computer-aided simulations and
artificial intelligence: Towards a sustainable natural environment”
Dr. Nelson Akafuah is an Associate Professor and Chair of the Department of Engineering Technology and the Institute of Research for Technology Development (IR4TD) Director at the University of Kentucky.

Dr. Nelson obtained a Ph.D. in mechanical engineering from the University of Kentucky in Lexington, KY. An Executive MBA from the Jack Welch Management Institute at the Strayer University, an MS degree in mechanical engineering from the University of New Orleans, New Orleans, LA, and a BS degree in Mechanical engineering from the University of Science and Technology, in Kumasi, Ghana.
Dr. Nelson has held several technical and management roles, including a project engineer at KITE, an energy consulting firm in Kumasi, Ghana. A mechanical engineer at General Electric Power Systems in Schenectady, NY, and the associate director of IR4TD.
Nelson’s research areas include all aspects of paint processes for automotive OEMs and Tier one suppliers, implementing systems/tools to enhance energy efficiency and overall performance levels, and improving operational quality and productivity through lean manufacturing principles.
Strong connections to family and community are essential to Nelson. His passion in life and career is helping others achieve their dreams, and he is guided by what best serves his students and helps them imagine a future that is possible.

Dr. Takahiro Nomura (born 22. May 1984) is the associate professor of Faculty of engineering, Hokkaido University, Japan. His research fields are high-temperature latent heat storage. His particular interests are Carnot Batteries, which is a power to heat to power type energy storage. He holds a PhD in Materials Science and Engineering, Graduate School of Engineering, Hokkaido University, Japan. He has served as a Post-doctoral fellow@2013, Project Assistant Prof.@2014 , and then the present position of Associate Prof.@2015, Faculty of Engineering, Hokkaido University. His specialty is energy chemical engineering, and belongs to The society of Chemical Engineers, Japan/ The Heat Transfer Society Japan/The Iron and Steel Institute Japan. He was an Expert Member of Japan, IEA ECES Annex 36 (Carnot Batteries, 2019~2022), International Energy Agency.

Dr. Oi Lun (Helena) Li graduated with her Ph.D from McMaster University, Canada in the major of Civil Engineering (Chemical and Environmental division) in 2010.8 and proceeded as a post-doc at Nagoya University, Japan. Later, she was promoted as assistant professor in Nagoya University and Shibaura Institute of Technology. In the year 2017, she has moved to Pusan National University and is currently a professor in the School of Materials Science and Engineering. Her major research includes designing plasma chemistry to synthesize functional materials in the field of green energy applications, including plasma synthesis of heteroatom-doped carbon bi-functional oxygen catalyst for fuel cell, hybrid metal-carbon catalysts for metal-air battery, surface treatment of carbon and silica acid catalyst for biomass upgrade. She has published over 90 SCI/SCIE/Scopus papers, including App. Catal. B, Nano-Micro Letts.,
Chem. Eng. J., Mater. Chem. A., Green Chem., etc. She is the P.I of over 10 national and industrial projects in Japan, Korea and China. Currently she is appointed as the Guest Editor in Catalysis Today, Frontier of Chemistry, and the editorial board member of International Journal of Plasma Environmental Science and Technology.

Dr. Wan-Ho Cho was born in Seoul, Korea, in 1980. He received a B.S. degree in mechanical engineering and M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in acoustics from the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST) in 2002, 2004, and 2008, respectively. He was a postdoctoral. fellow in the Acoustics Laboratory at KAIST from 2008 September to 2010 February and he worked at the Department of Precision Mechanics of Chuo University in Tokyo, Japan, from 2010 April to 2012 February. From March 2012, he joined in the Department of Physical Metrology of Korea Research Institute of Standards and Science. He has been working on the field of acoustical signal processing of array system, sound-field control by multichannel audio systems. He also has been involved in several projects related to the product sound quality (PSQ) and noise control. After joining KRISS, he is conducting research on acoustical metrology related to the new acoustic standard system and its expansion.

Dr. ZHANG is a lecturer at the Zhengzhou University of Light Industry, China. She obtained her Ph.D. in 2019 at Gifu University with the major of Environmental and Renewable Energy Systems. She has been working on energy and environment fields, and her current research interests are applied plasma science in ammonia synthesis and carbon fixation. She has been published about 15 papers related to chemical engineering fields and achieved 3 awards due to the academic contribution.

Dr. Zhang Zhentao, a professor at the Technical Institute of Physics and Chemistry of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, key technical personnel of CAS. He is the director of the Key Laboratory of Equipment and Energy-saving Technology on Food & Pharmaceutical Quality Processing, Storage and Transportation, China National Light Industry. And he is a member of the 8th Editorial Board of the Agricultural Engineering Journal. The main research focuses on the Carbon dioxide Energy Storage (CES), new heat pump refrigeration and Carbon dioxide Capture, Utilization and Storage (CCUS) interdisciplinary science and technology. He is committed to environmental protection and sustainable development of clean energy.

Prof. Dr. Apanee Luengnaruemitchai
The title:
“Enhanced enzymatic digestibility of aquatic plants by pretreatment for butanol synthesis”
Dr. Apanee Luengnaruemitchai is a Professor who works at The Petroleum and Petrochemical College, Chulalongkorn University, Bangkok, Thailand. Her research group is working towards the development of catalyst for many applications that include hydrogen production from methanol, preferential CO oxidation, biomass pretreatment, biodiesel synthesis using heterogeneous catalysts, partial hydrogenation of biodiesel over Pd catalysts and HMF synthesis from glucose. She has over 120 publications in peer reviewed journal and a H-index of 32.

I graduate from Ph.D. from School of Energy, Geoscience, Infrastructure and Society (EGIS) from Heriot-Watt University, UK. I work at Department of Mineral Fuels as Geologist. I take responsivity on CCUS development in Thailand.
The import roles
- Promoting and supporting CCUS projects/studies in Thailand in 4 aspects of Technic, Regulatory framework, Economic and incentive policy and stakeholder engagement.
- Seeking collaboration from international organization to propel CCUS project in Thailand.
For achievement,
- Proposing the project “Initiative to Conduct the Study on CCS/CCUS Development and the Collaborative Network in ASEAN” in ASEAN. The CCUS Network in on-going process to set up.
- Proposing The CCUS projects to get financial support from Japan. The cooperation between the Ministry of Energy of Thailand and The Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry of Japan on CCUS under “the Memorandum of Cooperation on the Carbon Capture, Utilization and Storage Technology Partnership” singed on on 4 March 2023 at Tokyo Japan.
- Proposing The Capacity building role on CCUS deployment and development in APEC economies for Sustainable Development Goals to APERC.

Dr. Jintawat Chaichanawong is an associate professor and the head of Advanced Material Processing Research Lab at Faculty of Engineering, Thai-Nichi Institute of Technology, Thailand. His research interests include biocoke (bio-solid fuel) technology under the collaboration with Kindai University, development of porous carbon, nanoporous materials and composite materials, and decarbonization technology.
