MECHANICAL ENGINEERING HERITAGE NO.118
Odakyu Limited Express Romancecar SE3000
The SE (Type 3000), which began operation in 1957 as a limited express vehicle of Odakyu Electric Railway Co., Ltd., adopted various cutting-edge technologies of the time. With the cooperation of the Japanese National Railways (at that time), which aimed to develop high-speed trains, the train achieved a speed of 145 km/h, the world's fastest narrow-gauge speed at the time, in a high-speed test conducted on the Tokaido Main Line. This provided valuable data for the later development of the 0 Series Shinkansen trains. SE (Type 3000), whose operation ended in 1992, is currently preserved and exhibited at the Romancecar Museum.
