MECHANICAL ENGINEERING HERITAGE NO.109

Japanese oldest pitching machines Catapult type:KS-P/AR

This is a catapult-type pitching machine first designed in Japan by Hachio Saito, a lecturer at Kanto Gakuin University. It was manufactured by Kumagai Gumi Co., Ltd. (now Technos Co., Ltd.) and Chunichi Stadium Co., Ltd. This machine pushes out balls with a compressed spring, and can throw 12 fast or slow balls per minute. This machine led to the establishment of batting centers all over the country where people could easily enjoy the thrill of baseball, which also provided a new form of entertainment for the public.
