"Secure Transition of Power Systems and the Role of Nuclear"
Keisuke Sadamori
(Director, Energy Markets and Security, International Energy Agency)
Presenter Information Mr. Keisuke Sadamori became the IEA Director for Energy Markets and Security in 2012, leading an administrative structure that includes several core functions of the IEA, including monitoring global oil markets and responding to energy-supply disruptions.
Prior to joining the IEA, Mr Sadamori, a Japanese national, held many senior positions at the Japanese Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI), including Deputy Director-General at the Minister’s Secretariat.
Mr. Sadamori served as the executive assistant to the Prime Minister in 2011, when the Great East Japan Earthquake and Tsunami hit Japan, causing the Fukushima nuclear plant accident. Before this, he worked on international energy affairs and was the representative of the Government of Japan in such forums as the IEA Governing Board in 2008 and 2009. He also served as the chief negotiator for trade and investment agreements with Asian countries in 2009 and 2010.
Mr. Sadamori received an LL.B. from University of Tokyo in 1983 and a Master in Public Affairs from the Woodrow Wilson School of Public and International Affairs at Princeton University in 1990.

Kenji Yamaji
(The President of the Research Institute of Innovative Technology for the Earth)
Presenter Information Dr. Kenji Yamaji’s immediate past position was a Professor of Electrical Engineering and Information Systems at the University of Tokyo. He obtained B.S., M.S., and Dr. of Engineering degrees in nuclear engineering from the University of Tokyo in 1972, 1974, 1977 respectively. During the earlier part of his career, Dr. Yamaji had been extensively involved in the analysis of energy technology assessment, mainly at the Central Research Institute of Electric Power Industry (CRIEPI) in Japan. Dr. Yamaji served as President of the Japan Institute of Energy and as President of the Japan Society of Energy and Resources. He was a Council Member of the Science Council of Japan (SCJ), a Research Supervisor, of the Japan Science and Technology Agency (JST). He has published around 100 books as well as many research papers on energy systems, and he is also serving in many advisory bodies on energy and environmental policy for Japanese government. Dr. Yamaji contributed to Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) as a lead author for 3rd and 4th Assessment Reports of WG3.

Tadasu Yotsuyanagi
(Executive Officer and Corporate Senior Vice President, Toshiba Corporation President and CEO, Toshiba Energy Systems & Solutions Corporation)
Presenter Information Tadasu Yotsuyanagi joined Toshiba in 1989, and now oversees its energy business as President and CEO of Toshiba Energy Systems & Solutions Corporation.

Mr. Yotsuyanagi started as an engineer for nuclear business and has largely focused on that field, in addition to his wide-ranging experience and expertise in engineering and project management for the nuclear industry within Toshiba Group.

In 2017, Mr. Yotsuyanagi was appointed Technology Executive, Nuclear Energy Systems & Services Division, and in 2019, he was appointed Chief Technology Executive and Chief Quality Executive of Toshiba Energy Systems & Solutions Corporation.

He has advanced the establishment of a framework for special development for new businesses, such as digital, renewable energy and hydrogen, and has accelerated research in growth areas. Moreover, he has frequently visited the manufacturing sites and confirmed the soundness of the maintenance of the product realization process through conversations with concerned employees and reviewed the actual products as Chief Quality Executive.
He later became an Executive Officer and Corporate Vice President of Toshiba Corporation in June 2022.

Mr. Yotsuyanagi graduated from the University of Tokyo with a Masters in Nuclear Engineering. He is married, and in his free time he enjoys taking trips and going on walks with his wife.

"Ensuring a Reliable and Resilient Electrical Grid"

Presenter Information Chairman of ASME Clean Energy Technology Group, Past Chairman of ASME Power Division. And an ASME Fellow Frank Michell retired from American Electric Power (AEP). Prior to retiring, Frank managed the Applications Engineering and Balance of Plant Mechanical Equipment Group in the Engineering Services Organization; responsible for providing engineering services to AEP’ Fossil and Hydro Generating Fleet in the areas of Mechanical Engineering Analysis (fluid mechanics, thermodynamics, heat transfer, stress analysis & CFD modeling), fire protection engineering and balance of plant mechanical equipment & system expertise/design basis for pumps, heat exchangers, cooling towers, HVAC & dust collection and other misc. equipment. Also provided consultation support for AEP’s twin unit PWR Nuclear Plant. Following retirement from AEP, Frank formed Power Industry Consulting, LLC to provide consulting services to the industry. Frank is active in several Industry Organizations including the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME), Cooling Technology Institute (CTI), and Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI). Author/Co-author of a number of articles and technical papers on subjects including High Energy Pumps, Cooling Towers, Heat Exchangers, The US Electric Grid, and Power Plant Water Intakes. Frank holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering from Polytechnic Institute of New York.

"Emission control of organic pollutants in the coal and MSW combustion in China: current study and challenges"
Shengyong Lu (Zhejiang University)
Presenter Information Shengyong LU is a full professor in the State Key Laboratory of Clean Energy Utilization at Zhejiang University, China since 2012. He received his bachelor’s degree in thermal power engineering from Shanghai Jiaotong University in 1999 and doctor’s degree in engineering thermal physics from Zhejiang University in 2004. His research focuses on the formation mechanisms and control technologies of organic pollutants in the thermal disposal processes of different kinds of solid fuels. He engaged in fundamental and applied research on emission control of trace organic pollutants like dioxins in incineration flue gas for almost 20 years, systematic effective methods were proposed for abatement of dioxin emissions and widely applied in dozens of large-scale incinerators. Since 2015, as a team member he joined in developing innovative method and invent commercialized devices for online monitoring of dioxins in incineration flue gas, which now is a world leading system for real application in 400 to 800 tons/day incineration units. Meanwhile, his team also developed new process using the mechanochemical method to synergize the degradation of dioxins and the solidification of heavy metals in fly ash. From 2018 to 2021, he presided over a National Key Research and Development Project (governmental sponsor was 26.67 million Yuan) and led a hundred-researcher team investigating on the formation and emission characteristics of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) and condensable particulate material (PM) in flue gas from large scale coal-fired power boilers (300 MW and 660 MW). Since 2022, Prof. Lu presided over another National Key Research and Development Project (governmental sponsor was 15 million Yuan) to develop the low temperature catalytic oxidation and removal technologies for volatile organic compounds (VOCs) from coal conversion process.
