第4回 The Dangers of AI-Generated Peer Reviews
Peer reviewing is an important and essential aspect of being a researcher as it ensures the quality and integrity of a piece of scientific research. It is usually the responsibility of a researcher to write a peer review for their colleagues’ work. Unfortunately, this can be a cumbersome task for some as it can feel like an additional weight on their shoulders. Often, researchers are excited and intellectually stimulated by the parts of research that involve conducting experiments, analyzing the data from those experiments, and writing their own research paper. But if requested, they cannot decline to review a colleague’s work since it might adversely affect their own career as a scientist. With the advent of large language models (LLMs) like ChatGPT, researchers have begun pondering the question related to the usefulness of such models in conducting peer review work. Can the use of these models be considered ethical? How effective are these models when used for peer review?
